Turki Al-Faisal, The Arab World Special Peace Envoy.

23 01 2009

I could not think of one single person in the Arab world who is more articulate well qualified with excellent professional, academic credential, qualification, and integrity committed to the Palestinians and Arab rights and cause than HRH Prince Turki Al-Faisal as the Arab world Special Peace Envoy to America and the world.

President Barack Obama took the bold step on his second day of office naming George Mitchell as the US Special Envoy to the Middle East. I think it is time for the Arab world, we the people, to have someone with the stature and professionalism like Prince Turki Al-Faisal to take the lead as the Arabs Special Peace Envoy.

During his short tenure as Saudi Ambassador to Washington, Prince Turki Al-Faisal distinguished himself with his outreach to all Arab and Muslim communities across the US, an undertaken that I know of no Arab ambassador ever took in my 48 years in the US, a reach that both disturbed the Bush Administration and the Jewish lobby.

Prince Turki Al-Faisal also made sure he reach out to America and America criss crossing the country, articulating and representing the Arab views and position on the Middle East and the Arab-Israeli conflict that no Palestinian envoy ever bothered to undertake. He was reaching out, not waiting for invitations to cocktail parties.

No one can have more claims on Arab nationalism than the son of the late King Faisal who dedicated his life and died for Palestine and Jerusalem. Turki Al-Faisal like his late father is an Arab nationalist through and through. He is articulate, sharp, smart, and rich enough with unquestionable integrity putting the Arab and Palestinian interest as focus of his mission.

As a Palestinian in the Diaspora I could not think of a single Palestinian who matches Prince Turki Al-Faisal credentials, integrity, and intellect to represent our best interest in peace discussions with the US, with Israel and with the world. He is the only one well placed to coordinate and lead the discussions with the American administration and the world. I strongly suggest that we the Arabs and Palestinians draft Prince Turki Al-Faisal as the Arab Special Peace Envoy. We the Palestinians and the Arabs badly need someone like Prince Turki Al-Faisal to be our representative to the world.

One only needs to take a close look at those who took the lead to discuss and negotiate peace with Israel. Nothing to write home about and nothing to show for certainly nothing to be proud of. Perhaps the only exception was the team of the late Dr. Haider Abdul-Shafi who lead the Palestinian delegation to Madrid and to Washington only to be undermined by the late Yasser Arafat who was running scared that Dr. Haider, and the late Faisal Al-Hussani represent a real challenge to the leadership of Arafat and his side kicks Mahmoud Abbas and Ahmed Qurai and was afraid that his role as the “leader” will be marginalized and challenged by someone like Dr. Haider and Faisal Al-Hussaini.

Arafat was afraid that the Palestinians team of Dr. Haider will be able to achieve a break through that will bring liberation and freedom to the Palestinian people under occupation and find a redress to the all of the Diaspora and more favorable terms that he Arafat was willing to give and planned for. His acceptance of Oslo was no accident.

Concerned only with preserving his leadership and all that comes with it with access to money and power, concerned with Fatah and PLO losing its long held monopoly on the Palestinian cause, the Palestinian Axis of Evil; Arafat, Qurai and Abbas conspired to undermine the more competent and a man of integrity and stature like Dr. Haider and went to Oslo only to come back to Palestine not as liberator but as agents and managers for the Jewish Occupation.

We all know what happened next. Arafat dispatch the not so smart Ahmed Qurai, a man with much questionable integrity and competence to Oslo to lead the negotiations that saved Yasser Arafat, his Fatah and secured for them a lucrative and long term contract as managers for the Jewish Occupation.

For some 18 years we have seen the same faces, incompetent, not so smart, and corrupt with questionable integrity and professionalism leading the negotiations with Israel and the US. No need to mention names but to say the least, there is simply nothing to brag about and nothing to be proud of. A bunch of self serving individuals who are direct beneficiaries of the continued Jewish Occupation who, could never qualify to take the lead and represent the best interest of the Palestinian people both under the Jewish Occupation and the Diaspora.

Certainly the PLO and Fatah do not have a single person with enough integrity and professionalism to sit across George Mitchell, or Barack Obama let alone across the Israeli leadership with its reliance on experts and professionals from around the world. The PLO negotiating team does not have what it takes to lead to a successful negotiation that at best minimize the damage we end up with. If the past is an indication of the future then all of the Palestinians are in deep trouble.

Hamas leadership is no different than Fatah and the PLO, perhaps less corrupt but lacking the sophistication and world view, lacking the deep expertise to qualify to sit across the Israelis and the entire world Jewish community. There understanding of the world view is limited to Gaza and to Damascus and an ideology that takes us to no where as we have seen in Gaza. Yes the war on Gaza was predetermined but for Hamas to claim victory is something else. Israel lost the war because it committed war crimes.

Hence the recommendations that someone like Prince Turki-Al-Faisal be drafted as the Arab world Special Peace Envoy to the US and the world with responsibilities to coordinate all working teams and take the lead in discussions especially when it comes to Jerusalem and the refugees. I do not think the Palestinians and the Arab could afford another Oslo. Time for new bold leadership, Turki Al-Faisal has what it takes.

Glad you have an opinion, albeit a wrong opinion… Many across the Arab world do not have an opinion. I am sure once you calm down you can see and appreciate the greater merits of Turki Al-Faisal. I do not think on single Palestinian who is deserving to lead as a special envoy. Could not imagine or think of an Arab who qualifies to be special envoy. I am sure you agree with me that we do need a “special envoy” someone with impeccable credential with stature to be our envoy to the world. Do you think someone like Abbas, Mishaal, of Qurai, or Abed-Raboo , Saeb or Fayyda have what it takes. These people are corrupt to the core and have no credibility whatsoever. They are jokes before the Israelis and the Israelis treat them like clown. We need some one deserving of respect, and who respect himself. Perhaps you have some other suggestions. However no need to write such crude and insulting remarks… I am sure you have the capacity to express your opinion with out using words from the sewers.

Bottom line for Prince Turki Al-Faisal’s demand for a “demonstration on the ground”– ‘Destroy Israel.’ and then there will be peace in the Middle East. Forget that fact that Hamas has lobbed thousands of rockets into Israel, after the last so called “Truce.” “Truce” for Hamas is “time to re-arm for the attack.”

Israel has been way to patient. What does the Arab World expect that they will allow their schools and settlements to be bombed without protest? But all the while Hamas says they are doing this because Israel has “blockaded” their “Country.”

Humm… but where did Hamas get the weapons if they were blockaded? And who is supplying the weapons?

If they can get weapons in, why not food and medicine?

Something is not right, but the world protests the fact that Israel is acting to protect their Country, when one protest the rocket attacks against Israel.

All governments display hypocrisy to varying degrees, because a country’s values are frequently not reflected in its dealings with outside cultures. So, let’s set the criticisms of hypocrisy aside here for a moment in commenting on Al-Faisal’s call for “action” from the Obama administration. Let’s face facts. The Saudi Royal Family has done very little to discourage the ubiquitous madrassas and radical mosques within its own borders that are preaching a Muslim’s right to kill all infidels and convert the world to Islam, because that is what Allah commands. This goes far beyond the rejection of progressive thinking. It makes progress evil and outlaws tolerance. Al-Faisal needs to start practicing what he is preaching. He needs to look inside his own country for the solutions to terrorism and resolving the Palestinian issue. The Jews were in Palestine more than 1,500 years before Mohammed was even born, as KIng David and Solomon ruled from Jerusalem. It is the Jewish homeland and it is here to stay. Rejecting the Jews’ right to their own small sliver of land in the midst of so many oil-rich Muslim countries is indefensible. If the Arab world had any will for peace with the Jews, the Palestinian people would have been living in the garden spot of the world for that last 20 years. But, in the end, the Arabs hate the Jews for living in the midst of the Muslim world. Why? Because Israel is a progressive democratic state in which Jews, Christians and Muslims can flourish. The progressiveness and freedoms found in Israel are a stick in the eye of the bearded clerics who long for the austere fundamentalism of the Dark Ages. No concessions that Israel makes will satisfy groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, nor will it stop the vile mindset being imprinted on young Muslims throughout Saudi Arabia and other Islamic states.

Al-Faisal should be calling for an international enclave of respected Islamic leaders and scholars from around the world, including those sects who have been at each other’s throats for the last 1,500 years, and come to some agreements on what it means to be Muslim. It needs to establish a unified code of ethics that rejects the notion of converting the world to Islam under the blade and the killing of innocent people to achieve any end. Such an enclave should define once and for all what the words “martyr” and “jihad” really mean, and that Paradise does not await the suicide bomber who blows up a bus, pizzeria or night club. Once the leaders of Islam have given the rest of the world some hope to cling to, then all things will be possible. Until then, both sides will face each other with clinched fists. That is the price that has to be paid after all the killing and mayhem committed in the name of Allah.

We should care what this Neanderthal thinks because….? We didn’t solicit the Nazis for their myopic views on race and we shouldn’t give a hoot about a Saudi prince or any oter royal thug on their views on ‘fairness’.

Peace to the Arab world is Palestine w/o Jews and that is it. Nothing else matters. There will be peace when you decide to recognize Israel’s right to exist and stop HAMAS and HEZBOLLAH from lobbing rockets over the border. Obvious;y you have never noticed that Israel respons to teh terror after much patience.

I don’t see Israel sending your boys and girls over the border w/ bombs are their chests. They RESPOND w/ JETS.

Stop the terror and everyone will be happy.

He is a tool as are the rest of them.
Their only moral is as amoral as it gets “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. Let’s all hear the whinig about Gaza now, which shall I remind everyone, Israel gave back in a weak moment as a sacrifice for peace. They were rewarded for that with 3,000 rockets into Israel last year.
If it weren’t for a few good people I know there I would say nuke the whole place and let their fake god Allah sort them out.
We should do as (or similar to) the British general did in WWII- get 500 of the captured muslim terrorists together, shoot 100 of them, desecrate them as they are dying in a way that will keep them from Allah and their virgins, then finish the off. Tell the remaining 400- go tell your friends. I think if we fight on their level they will finally understand it. It worked in WWII.

Well, glad this posting have generated that much interest especially from our Jewish friend. I could not explain the phenomena since I am not a psychologist, but it seems that the Jews, especially American Jews are in self denial, just like the drug addicts who refuse to admit he has a drug problem or a wife abuser who refuse to accept he has a problem. No need to remind our Jewish friends who were the first terrorists in the Middle East and in Palestine, but one thing for sure, they were not Arabs and they were not Muslims or Christians but Jew, yes Zionist Jews… so please stop teaching us anything about terrorism. What Israel and the Jewish Occupation did in Gaza is beyond description it should make every decent Jew ashamed of being Jewish and supporter of Israel. The War on Gaza was nothing but war crime. Too bad for the Palestinians they did not have the same American weapons Israel have, and too bad for the Palestinians Israel did not have the very powerful and deadly Hamas rockets and missiles… Perhaps if there was a switching of roles then I am sure Jews will be very happy they have what Hamas did have. Israel gets away with murder because of the powerful chock the Jewish lobby have over Washington, with every one daring to call Israel on its crimes will be finished, dead gone. Of great use is the fact the American media is too coward to televise what was happening in Gaza because every one knows they will get a pink slip at the end of the broadcast.
As for Prince Turki Al-Faisal, I am of the view that the Arabs needs to have someone like him to be the special peace envoy to America, to the world and yes, to Israel. For those of us like me who were, I say were in the peace camps, working with peace groups both Jewish and Arabs I no longer believe that Israel and the Jews especially the American Jews are interested in peace. Israel and the Jews are doing every thing to make sure that there are NO Palestinian, except Abbas and his gangs, are willing to have peace with Israel. Never seen such mindless murderers and killers like the Jewish Army. Their behavior in Gaza put the Nazi to shame. For Israel and especially for the American Jewish community, Arab blood, the killing of Arabs energize every one and give them that high they need so often. Shame on the American Jewish community for being too silent and too ready to toe the Israeli lines. It seems that any sense of decency or humanity is lost within the Jewish community… I am of the view that Judaism as we know it is replaced with Zionism… there are no “Jews” any more, only Zionists.
Yes, we do have some and certain problems with ideological Islam just like Jews have with Zionism, and yes, I am of the view that “Islamic terrorism” must be fought by Muslims and must be defeated by Muslims… Same is true, only Jews can defeat Zionism. Keeps the dialogue going? Thanks for visiting and sharing your views.
