President Mahmoud Abbas, whose elected term expired more than couple of years ago declared on a recent visit to Athens “ the peace process is in dire crises”. It seems the brilliant team around him failed to tell him this truth. The peace process was in crises from the day Oslo was signed by Mahmoud Abbas in Washington where he and the late Yasser Arafat committed the PLO as security and management contractor for the Israeli Occupation. Israel since the days of Rabin never looked to the PLO leadership as a “peace partner” but simply as a security and administrative contractor reporting to the Israeli High Commissioner sitting in Beit El not too far from Abbas’s office. Any one familiar with the “special” if not strange relationship between the US and Israel would be shocked with this title, but it is true. Israel and its Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and his foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman could not have better friends these days than Mahmud Abbas, Saeb Erekat, Yasser Abed Rabbo, Nabil Abu -Rudeina and the Palestinian negotiating team. In few days, Muslims all over the world will start observing the Holy month of Ramadan where Muslims are to fast shortly before sunrise until after sunset, abstaining from food, drinks, cigarettes and sex during these times. It may do some if not a lot of good if President Obama invite both President Ahmedinejad of Iran and Bibi Netanyahu of Israel to the White House to watch jointly the horrors of nuclear weapons. Perhaps it will do the world lots of goods if the president of France, the prime minister of England, the president of Russia, the prime minister of India, the president of Pakistan and the president of China all join in with Netanyahu and Ahmedinejad and watch a documentary on the horror and the devastation that struck the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as the US dropped the first ever nuclear bombs.
