Any one familiar with the “special” if not strange relationship between the US and Israel would be shocked with this title, but it is true. Israel and its Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and his foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman could not have better friends these days than Mahmud Abbas, Saeb Erekat, Yasser Abed Rabbo, Nabil Abu -Rudeina and the Palestinian negotiating team. Notwithstanding the legal opinion submitted by the Foreign Ministry to then prime minister Levi Eshkol of the “Illegality” of sending Jews to settle the West Bank, each of the subsequent Israeli governments whether Labor, Likud or Kadima continued with an aggressive settlement policy through funding, authorization, land confiscation, and army protection, knowing well that Jewish settlements not only will kill the peace, but will kill the chance of any negotiated agreement of a two state solutions based on 67 borders and a shared Jerusalem. Settlement activities continued since 67 and will not stop now or in the future; peace was never a priority neither in Tel-Aviv nor in Washington or for that matter for Diaspora Jews. The power, influence, intimidation, threats, and black mail exercised and practice by a number of American Jewish organizations in the United States goes beyond McCarthyism and the witch hunt of Communists and Americans whose loyalty was suspect. It goes beyond any thing we have seen in the lawless George Bush administration and the Department of Home Land Security under Michael Chertoff. It goes beyond the Spanish Inquisition, it goes beyond any thing in Nazi Germany, goes beyond anything in Communist Russia, and it even goes beyond anything we have seen in Israel. The work of these American Jewish organizations, their approach to the Arab-Israeli conflict, their approach to Zionism, their heavy handed tactics and exercise of power in Americais nothing short of an “American Inquisition”.
