Notwithstanding the legal opinion submitted by the Foreign Ministry to then prime minister Levi Eshkol of the “Illegality” of sending Jews to settle the West Bank, each of the subsequent Israeli governments whether Labor, Likud or Kadima continued with an aggressive settlement policy through funding, authorization, land confiscation, and army protection, knowing well that Jewish settlements not only will kill the peace, but will kill the chance of any negotiated agreement of a two state solutions based on 67 borders and a shared Jerusalem. For years marauding criminal and armed Jewish settlers have been terrorizing Palestinians villagers in and around Hebron, Jenin, Nablus, Ramallah, Tulkarem, Qalqillia among other places. Unlike former President George Bush, President Obama is well known for his smart, intelligence and savvy as a leader and as a politician and is critical and independent thinker who listens to his advisors but in the end he is his own man. However his approach to the conflict in the Middle East and his efforts to push for a two state solution through “proximity talks” raises some serious doubt if he really believes in such a solution. Few weeks ago, when the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority Salam Fayyad announced his plans to develop and implement a complete plan for the total infrastructure of the Occupied Territories within two years the Israeli Prime Bibi Netanyahu promised this will never happen since the Occupied Territories are “disputed territories” and Israel has total control of area C representing 59% of the total territories occupied by Israel in 67.
