Only in America, where we can “damn” God and get away with it, but not “damn” the country for its failings.

These days, every one is jumping on Barack Obama for words “two word” the Reverend Jeremiah Wright said during one of his sermons. It seems 30 years of sermons and service to his Trinity United Church in Chicago South Side are erased and deleted and demands for apologies from both Barack Obama and the Reverend Wright are filling the newspapers and the airwaves because Reverend Wright “damned America” for 400 years of slavery and human rights abuse, not to mentions the hundreds of millions perished in slavery and the hundreds if not thousands lynched by White angry mobs, let alone the humiliation of millions of Blacks had to endure for hundreds of years and remain today. If one follows the media, it seems every one is claiming “blood libel” from both Barack Obama and the Reverend Wright. I am sure “damning America ” would have not have created such a controversy if it Reverend Wright did not criticize Israel in the same sermons. It seems Campus Watch expanded its coverage to Black churches. We know they are there with their cameras and tape recorders in every mosque.

Every day millions of Americans damn “God” as a a matter of routine expression, expressing anger at God and at themselves. Millions of Americans damn their parents and families. Millions of Americans curse each others and say the “F” and “B”words against mothers and sisters and no one complain. Not even the most Evangelicals of Christians. It is Ok to damn God, the Creator, but it is not right to “damn” a country for 400 years of slavery and humiliations of Blacks.

White Evangelical Christians the likes of the late Jerry Falwell and the infamous Pat Robertson spoke of God curse on America for its sinful behaviors and shortcomings going as far as blaming sinful Americans for Hurricane Katrina and for September 11th and no one dares to say anything to these looney because they happen to be White and of course Republicans.

I do not understand why all of this anger at the Reverend Wright for speaking out of his grievances and that of his Black community. I do remember the days when Black had to ride in the back of the bus, and when Blacks have to use different drinking water lest they contaminate the water fountain of the White. I remember the days when Blacks could not rent an apartment in White neighborhood. Even today some 40 years after Civil Rights legislations Blacks remain in the back of the bus when it comes to social and economic development. Yes, few makes it and one only need to look at the US Senate and see there is only one Black US senator when 5 or 10 should be there. One must not be blind to the US prison population where a Black young man had a better chance ending up in jail than finishing high school.

This whole issue is nothing more than a way for the Hillary Clinton campaign to cast doubts about Senator Obama’s loyalty to America, in the same way it casted doubts about his faith and religion giving the impression the man is “closet Muslim”. Sad to say this is the nature of American politics, nothing but dirty games with no morality whatsoever. Winning is every thing and at any costs.

Some White Christian Evangelical went even further when they suggested that Genesis 9 justified slavery of Blacks and that the enslavement of Blacks is out of the Bible and is Noah’s Curse. Yet no one dare to say any thing to these people who damn an entire race. Hell break lose because the Reverend Wright cursed American for 400 years of injustice and slavery. White right wingers the likes of Pat Robertson, Rush Limbaugh, David Horowitz damn and curse people and ideas every day and they get away with it. But not Reverend Wright. Of course being Black does not help. Pat Robertson went even further suggesting that G0d was punching Ariel Sharon with a stroke because he dared to violate God’s rule that Jews should never give up land to the Arabs. Both Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson damn over a billion Muslims with their racist remarks on Islam and the Prophet Mohamed. That was OK. Only in America were can “damn” God and get away with it, but we could not “damn” the country for its injustice and failures. We can burn the Bible, the Quran, and the American flag but say nothing about America. We can condemn condemn an entire faith or race and get away with it but we could not condemn America for its failings, of course America’s failings are also our own failings. The attack on Obama and the Reverand Wright is nothing short of modern day lynching.

Going after Obama based on what Reverend Wright said is a political attack like all others plan and simple. One hundred years ago, the political attacks by the media were more creative and outlandish to say the least. I’m not a political expert, but this attack on Obama is probably motivated by the corporate owned mainstream media (MSM) which thinks that Obama is “too soft” (their words not mine) on Iran. I’m going to go out on a limb here, but just maybe our MSM has a heavy biased toward the views of the Neocons (warhawks) and their American Israeli-Firster friends.
