It is the Occupation, Stupid!
9 01 2008
George Bush historic visit to Israel and his commitment to the security of Israel while not even mentioning ending the occupation is a telling where this visit is leading to, war on Iran. Both Israel and the US see the only major issue and conflict in the Middle East is Iran threat to Israel but not Israel’s Occupation and never the threat Israel has posed during the last 60 years. I am afraid that Israel will convince George Bush that war on Iran is in Israel national interests in the same way it convinced George Bush through its agents within the American administration that the war on Iraq is in Israel’s best interest, of course paid for with American blood and money.
I finished watching an interview with the Iraqi artist Nasri Shamma and was surprised to know more than a million Iraqis where killed or injured. More than 3 million Iraqis are refugees in neighboring Arab countries. More than 4 million Iraqis are made homeless within Iraq, 4 million Iraqi children became orphaned having lost one or two parents and that more than 40 million dates trees where destroyed. Thanks to Israel and its agents within the US administration. Time to bring them to trial.
If George Bush is really interested in promoting peace and reconciliations between Israel and the Palestinians he should have stand up as the head of a powerful country and tells Israel its 40 years military and settler’s occupation must come to an end. Instead George Bush, Olmert and the stupid and reckless Palestinians in Gaza made the stupid and useless rockets of both Hamas and Islamic Jihad the central focus of the joint press conference. This is exactly what the US and Israel wants, and the Palestinian leadership in Gaza made it all possible. How stupid.
Somehow the Palestinians always end up shooting themselves in the foot or putting their shoes in their mouths. They always managed to screw things when it counts most. George Bush visit is very historic to the Palestinians more than anyone else.
Rather than organizing to have one million Palestinians out in both Gaza and Ramallah calling for an end to the Israeli military and settlers occupations and for an end to the Apartheid Wall, for an end to the Settlements, the Palestinians leadership and people made the issue of the stupid rockets in Gaza a major issue and made the prisoners the central issue of their protest.
Never understood why the Palestinian leadership and the people did not make and concentrate on ending the Israeli Occupation the focus, the only focus. Without ending the occupation, the settlements will continue. Without ending the occupation, the daily raids by the IDF and the daily killings and kidnapping of Palestinians will continue. Without ending the Occupation, the Apartheid Wall will continue, and without ending the occupation, the hundreds of checkpoints will continue. Never understood why the Palestinians never made ending the Occupation the central and the only thing on the table.
Too bad the Palestinian cause never benefited and does not benefit from smart, intelligent and effective leadership that can make ending the Occupations the only thing on the table. The late Yasser Arafat never made ending the occupation his focus but made building his ’security forces’ central to his administration. Now Abbas is following the same and making the security issue central to its negotiations with Israel.
Never understood why the Palestinian leadership does not make good use of the talents and smarts of both Dr. Mustafa Bargouthi and Dr. Hanan Ashrawi to wage and international campaign to end the Israeli Occupation.
It is too bad the Palestinians people did not take advantage of George Bush visit to Israel and the Occupied Territories and make ending the Israeli Occupation the only thing on the table.
With Israel’s decision to continue with the business of occupation as usual, I do not see any chance for peace.
On a final note to those in Gaza. Forget your stupid useless rockets and time to turn inward and rebuild what the Occupations destroyed in over 40 years and what you in two years of ending the occupation failed to do. I am one of those who while believing in the absolute right to fight the occupations by all means including military means ( sorry but never believed in terrorism or suicide bombing), I always felt that ending the Israeli military and settlers occupations can only come from massive and peaceful resistance that must take place every day and every hour. Time for new and innovative changes to bring an end to the Jewish Occupation.

As I told you on Haaretz, the features of the ‘occupation’ that you object to are those that are in reaction to the violence of the Intifada. Before the intifada the borders were open and there were no checkpoints. To return to that stage persuade your leaders to clamp down on the violence.
What is the threat you mention that Israel has posed over the last sixty years? Is it Israel’s very existence that is the threat?
I agree with your statement: Peaceful resistance will gain the respect and the cooperation of the average Israeli and the sympathy of the world.

As for your earlier comments, the Israelis benefiting from the long silence and docility of the Palestinians went on a beng stealing and robbering Palestinians of their lands and properties. Moreover the Civil Administrations denied the people basic rights. We lost very expensive properties to criminal settlers and trespassers who thought my land was their to take with a deed from God. My late father had to endure 12 years of constant travel to Cypress every 3 months because the civil administration denied him the rights to reunite with my mother. He had to do this from age 65 to age 77 when he succeeded in bribing an Israelis. Every thing was fine and dandy for the Israelis as long as the Palestinians were silent and allowed the Jews to take over. When the first intifada which was not violent and not armed Rabin ordered the breaking of every arm and every bone and of course tens of thousands were jailed without trials. Yes of course every thing was to the liking of the Israelis. When the Palestinians became to resist the occupation they became terrorists and criminals. That is not the way it works. Why all of the silence from Israelis when they were commiting the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Why someone like my sister have to wait 15 years and still waiting for a permit to build a house when Jews where allowed to steal and build in days and without even permits. Like to have some answers.
