Gaza on my mind

21 01 2008

Palestinian demonstrators take part in a candlelight vigil against the Israeli blockade of the Gaza StripWatching the news last night of Gaza in the dark makes me sick. I am sick of the Israeli leadership that does not hesitate to show their criminal behavior and racism, which runs deep in their blood, to gain favor with their people. I sick of the Palestinian leadership in both Gaza and Ramallah that is unable to live up to its responsibilities toward more than 4.5 millions under occupation. Yes the Israeli Army and Settler did leave Gaza, but Gaza remained occupied by Israel since Israel exercise control and access to air, land and sea.

Never understood how someone like Mohamed Dahlan, a school drop out and a thug, can be put in charge of negotiating Gaza border controls with his friend Shaul Mofaz, to whom he promised to “break the bones of all of Hamas”? How stupid can the Palestinian leadership agrees to give total authority to Israel to even control and have a say so over the access to Egypt? Egypt is another story!

I am also sick to see more than one and half million Palestinians in absolute darkness with every thing shutting down including intensive care units at hospitals with Israel issuing the premeditated death and targeted killings of premature children and sick people in Gaza hospitals.

After more than 40 years of occupations, Hamas leadership should have been on notice that Israel will shut down the Gaza strip unless these stupid, useless and reckless so called “rockets” stop. Israel has been telling the leadership in Gaza it will shut down Gaza for a long time, why the surprise? Unlike the Palestinian leadership, both Hamas and Fatah which was never held accountable for its failures, the Israeli leadership does give a damn about its standings among its citizens and with strong demand from border towns to do something to stop these stupid rockets, even if they do not harm.

Over 5,000 of these rockets were fired from Gaza causing minor damage and causing light injuries to less than a dozen of Israeli citizens. On the other side, Gaza has been reduced to rubbles, shut off from the rest of the world, with all systems and infrastructures broken or shut down. Its economy shattered and more than 50% of the population on the verge of starvation and facing absolute and dire poverty. Yet, no one in the political leadership in Gaza dares to sit down with these young and yes, reckless military wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad and put every thing on the table. The question that should have been raised long time ago is who is in charge? The political or military leadership? The people of Gaza did not elect Ezzideen Qassam Brigade and did not elect Al-Aqsa Brigade. The people elected political leadership based on certain political agenda. The military agenda of Ezzideen Qassam and Al-Aqsa Brigade was never part of the election campaign. Why is it that these very few “militia commanders” are holding more than 1.5 million people hostage in Gaza? Someone should answer the question?

I am one of those people who believe the Palestinian people have every right to take up arms and fight the Israeli military and settler’s occupation. However and sad to say that after 40 years of armed liberation, the PLO with tens of billions in its coffers and tens of thousands of dedicated and committed fighters failed to liberate one single inch of land, forget about 1948 I am talking about the land occupied in 67 war. Let us not blame Israel for every thing. Let us face the facts and face the truth. Military or armed resistance as we have seen in the last 40 years has come to a dead end. Suicide bombing, while morally and ethically wrong proved to be a total disaster and served only Israel and took away any sense of legitimacy the Palestinians armed resistance ever had.

Yes, Israel is a criminal racist state and will not hesitate to use murder and mass murder to achieve its objective. We all know this. Nothing is new. The question is why we have not learned from the past? And why we have failed to learn from others who used military and political weakness and turned it in a great and powerful force in fighting occupation, racism and apartheid and won their freedom and independence? Why we have failed to learn the lessons of Martin Luther King, the lessons of Nelson Mandela and of course the great Mahatma Gandhi. All were giant leaders who faced great and powerful forces, perhaps more powerful than Israel and won. Yes, the Blacks in America had great leader in Martin Luther Kings. The Blacks of South Africa had Nelson Mandela and the Indians have Mahatma Gandhi in India. Giants and great leaders who defied evil and powerful empires and nations to win freedoms for their people.

Who the Palestinians have for leadership? Arafat having gained the support of the world was more concerned with his own selfish agenda than the freedom of his people and ended up delivering a legitimized military and settler’s occupations called Oslo.

Mahmoud Abbas while a decent man is not a leader who can bring liberation to his people. He could not even manage a wild and ruthless security organizations let alone face the powerful alliance of the US and Israel. Ahmed Qurai an incompetent and failure at SAMED and Oslo who sold discounted cement to Israel to build the Apartheid Wall. Hamas no better. The late Sheik Ahmed Yassin was a committed leader who learned when to talk and when to fight. The political leadership of Hamas has nothing to brag about and who live in its own ghetto. They have no political let alone a military vision of the future. They came to power under Oslo and they thought they can win liberation with the use of arms and their little stupid rockets and their suicide bombers. Instead they brought nothing but disaster to Gaza and the rest of Palestine. Of course that does not exonerate Fatah which turned from a liberation movement to a criminal and racketeering organizations run and operated by criminal thugs and thieves.

The Palestinian people more than ever need political leadership that can inspire them to fight the occupation and fight it in the same way of Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi. They need a clone of Marwan Bargoughti, Mustafa Bargouthi, the late Haider Abdul-Shafi and Hanan Ashrawi. Time to learn from the Blacks and Indians and time for a new fight for liberation and freedom. Not Oslo and not Annapolis.
